Ear wax removal
Ear wax is a natural bodily secretion which helps protect the ear against harmful bacteria and other irritants such as dust. People commonly produce varying amounts of ear wax which can vary further on age and environment. If you're experiencing any of the following, you may need to have some of that ear wax removed; hearing loss, itchiness in the ear, dizziness or vertigo, ringing, occasional movement in the ear, pain within the ear
Inserting objects or fingers deep into the ear should be avoided so as to prevent pushing ear wax further into the ear or damaging delicate structures such as the ear drum.
We offer both ear irrigation and microsuction services. These are both delivered by a fully qualified nurse practitioner who will perform the procedures in a comfortable private room.
Microsuction
Microsuction is the latest ear wax removal service available. One of the main benefits of using microsuction is that it’s gentle on the ears and doesn’t damage the lining. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) quote only miscrosuction and irrigation as the two safe and effective methods of removing ear wax.
Irrigation
Ear irrigation involves flushing the wax from the ear using a gentle flow of warm water. The procedure usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, however this will depend on the amount, type, and depth of wax build-up.

Both techniques are available to you at the clinic. In some cases, certain things may result in you being offered one technique over the other. These can include the amount and consistency of the wax, previous medical history and the size of your ear canals.
Your dedicated nurse practitioner will talk you through both processes, any questions or concerns you may have as well as which technique they believe is most suitable.
PLEASE NOTE: If you're attending the clinic for ear wax removal, please ensure you apply olive oil daily to both ears for the week prior to appointment. 1ml of olive oil will be more than sufficient. This allows the ear wax to soften which allows for efficient removal. Please avoid using cotton wool.
